Bhindi Masala
Bhindi Masala
A flavorful dish of Indian origin. Made with bhindi (okra), onions, tomatoes, and a variety of spices. Served with traditional Indian bread.
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 lbs okra, chopped
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp ginger, minced
- 1 large tomato, chopped
- 3 chili peppers, chopped
- 3 tbsp oil
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 2 tsp salt adjust to taste
- 1 tsp garam masala
- 1 tbsp lime juice
- 1/3 cup cilantro, chopped
Instructions
- Heat oil in a pan over medium-high heat.
- Add garlic and cook for 1 minute.
- Add onions, ginger, and chili peppers. Cook for 5 minutes. Stir occasionally.
- Add tomatoes and cook for 2 minutes.
- Add salt, turmeric, and garam masala. Mix well and cook for 1 minute.
- Add okra and lime juice. Mix gently and cook for 10-15 minutes until tender. Stir occasionally.
- Remove from heat and serve hot with traditional Indian bread.
Notes
For a crispier texture, bake okra in an oven at 375°F for 15 minutes prior to cooking. Reduce cooking time in step 6 by 5-10 minutes if okra are pre-baked.
The acidic content of lime juice prevents the okra from ending up with a slimy texture.
